About Me

We can each find extraordinary meaning in finding the right pathway on our journey.

Like many others’, my journey began with years of drudgery in jobs and a career that were going nowhere. I felt sure there was something better for me out there, but whatever that was remained elusive. People often told me I was “good with people,” and I wanted a career that reflected that, along with the opportunity to serve others. I spent years wandering down the wrong pathways, missing turns, and taking the wrong detours, until I found myself bored and unfulfilled in a job to nowhere.

There, at a fork in the road, I shared my troubles with a mentor. In those conversations, through verbalizing my thoughts, I realized why I was floundering: I had been focusing on the wrong skill set. As we talked, it dawned on me that psychology might be the right fit for that skill set. The lightbulb flashed, I made a decision, and, a year later, headed to graduate school. My goals were met because I had:

Important conversations.

The search for meaning, an awareness of missing pieces, and, out of the depths of despair, a moment when something crystallized.

The benefit of another’s perspective is relevant beyond our careers, of course. Finding the right relationships, navigating out of the wrong ones, understanding our behaviors in tough situations, getting through a crisis that seems insurmountable. These may all seem elusive when we are stuck and sorting it out on our own.

I understand therapy as a place to workshop ideas.

When we put our heads together and speak honestly and pragmatically, you might find that getting a handle on things is not as impossible as it once seemed.

Understanding myself the dynamics of being mired in crisis is an important element of the work we will do. Combined with years of training in a variety of therapeutic settings and theoretical orientations, these life experiences provide crucial insights for helping others through similar crises. I’m out in the world just as you are, and that perspective is helpful in practical applications.

I’d like to partner with you to help you navigate the stressors of your life, whether that is related to your career, your relationships, or the complexities of most any situation in which you find yourself.

Feel free to reach out. Let’s schedule a meeting, and we can begin to sort out a plan.

My Training

I earned my graduate degree at the American School of Professional Psychology in Washington, DC, after earning an English degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I have worked at inner city community clinics, in residential treatment facilities, and in my Fifth Avenue office in New York, giving me broad perspectives on life and therapy.

My Interests

My current interests and studies include civil rights, natural law, and entrepreneurship, as well as live music, hiking, dogs, and being outside in general. I serve on the Board of the Mecklenburg Psychological Association, and am available for speaking engagements in the area.
